Interior design project for the accommodations on the Montasio Plateau
In the heart of the Montasio Plateau, at an altitude of 1,600 metres, I had the privilege of designing the interior furnishings for the restoration of three rural buildings located in the beautiful area of Sella Nevea, in the municipality of Chiusaforte. A public project that combines architecture, functionality, and hospitality, conceived to offer shelter and warmth to hikers crossing these unspoiled landscapes.
The context and function of the buildings
The project involved two accommodations intended for overnight stays and a third structure reserved for the site caretaker, which will also serve as a bivouac and refreshment point for hikers. The buildings are not accessible by car, but are designed for those walking the Montasio trails: every space was conceived to provide comfort, practicality, and a sense of “home,” while maintaining the essential simplicity of the mountains.
Materials and style: tradition reinterpreted
The project involved the custom-made creation of all the interior furnishings, using spruce wood as the main material, complemented by larch details. I wanted to avoid the effect of pre-assembled, cold furnishings, choosing instead an authentic style that dialogues with the surrounding environment while at the same time offering warmth, hospitality, and functionality.
Each accommodation is equipped, on the ground floor, with a fitted kitchen and a bathroom, as well as storage furniture specifically designed to meet the needs of hikers: spaces for jackets, boots, backpacks, and trekking equipment. On the upper floor are the classic alpine dormitories, simple yet carefully detailed.
The caretaker’s bivouac
The third structure, conceived as the caretaker’s accommodation, will also serve as a light refreshment point, with the possibility of preparing sandwiches, hot drinks, and offering useful information to visitors. It is not a restaurant, but rather a simple and genuine place where people can stop, rest, and enjoy the authentic atmosphere of these mountains.
